Communal Gathering on Hatred - August 24, 2017  at 7pm

“What is hateful to you, do not do unto your neighbors.”

Such simple self-evident words… The Jewish Golden Rule… Rabbi Hillel spoke these them two thousand years ago in an effort to help describe for the community and the world how humanity should act. And yet, after the bigotry and hatred displayed in Charlottesville, Hillel’s words seem less obvious than once thought.

Since returning from vacation, my email box has been filled with individuals requesting some time to sit, chat and act. This is quite understandable because when faced with such blatant anti-Semitism, it causes us to feel upset, angry and even alone. This is especially true because we live in the towns in the Northern part of Northern Westchester, a fair distance away from the core of the Jewish community. But, this is not a time to feel alone. This is a time to gather, learn, and feel supported.

With that in mind, I want to invite you and your friends to a community gathering tomorrow evening  August 24, 2017 at 7 pm at the Temple. We will spend time sharing our thoughts, learning Jewish perspectives on hatred, and discussing action steps going forward. I hope you can join us as we note this moment in our Jewish lives, not as individuals but as a community.

B’shalom,

Rabbi Robbie Weiner
