social action: Temple Beth am gives to the community
Through our Social Action Committee, our congregation proves that giving back is more
than just something we believe in – we take action. And our actions are varied.
The summer of 2015 saw our Nepal fundraiser grossing nearly $10,000. This event was so well received, we had to add extra tables and chairs.
In the fall, our High Holy Days food drive resulted in donations of more than 100 grocery bags filled to the brim. Not long after, our Team Mitzvah helped raise money by participating in the Support Connection walk.
The Temple’s annual Adopt-a-Family program brought in gifts both big and small along with all the provisions needed to make a wonderful holiday meal for three local families in need. The gift-wrapping event for our Religious School children proved to be an excellent teaching moment. They saw that much of what they take for granted other people can’t afford to buy. It was quite a sight to see wrapping paper, scotch tape, bows, ribbons and name tags strewn all about the classroom floor. The result? Bags of gifts in all shapes and sizes.
For most of us staying warm in winter is a given. But for those in need, a coat can be a luxury. Our annual coat drive brought donations of all sizes and styles to help.
During Tu B’Shvat, the Religious School partnered with Social Action to donate fresh fruit to a local food pantry.
Not to be forgotten are those who enjoy books. We continue taking donations for children in less fortunate communities.

TEAMitzvah shows all of us a fabulous way to put into action the lessons learned
during the Holy Days through their participation in this year's Support Connection,
Support-a-Walk. Kol Ha-Kavod to the entire team.
