Dear Parents/Guardians:

Under the Sex Offender Registration Act (Megan's Law), we have received notification from the Yorktown Police Department that a Level 3 sex offender is residing in the area in Yorktown Heights, NY. Level 3 sex offenders are those individuals who pose a high risk of committing sexual offenses again. Relevant and appropriate information regarding this offender is posted. You may obtain information by contacting the New York State Sex Offenders Registry at 1-800-262-3257. Information can also be accessed on-line at: http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/index.htm.

I urge you to please take time to speak with your children about contacts with strangers and safety measures, and to encourage them to speak with you about situations that make them feel uncomfortable. Please work with your children on appropriate strategies to protect themselves in situations that are potentially dangerous to them. If you would like, I can meet with you or a group to discuss, train, and practice safety measures. (By the way, the most important measure that you can take is to never leave children unsupervised).

For more information on Megan's Law, you can access the web site called "Parents for Megan's Law" at www.parentsformeganslaw.com.

The Temple Beth Am Security Team and the administration ensure that all staff members are aware of this information. Continued education and dialogue between the school, parents/guardians and community members create a safer environment for children and promote a reasonable response to threats to our children's safety.

Finally,

You should know that your child's safety is our greatest concern. This letter, as well as other measures is evidence of Temple Beth Am's commitment to that goal. This information should not be a cause for alarm. The building has been and will continue to be a secure haven for all of our children. During school hours, no-one is allowed in the building without proper identification and vetting by the staff (this has been in place for several years now). The doors remain locked and the dismissal is closely guarded by school staff. Further counter measures are in place- both overt and covert, at all events. Procedures are professionally planned and led, and your Security Team is well equipped to serve. The Police Dept. is kept in close contact for security matters and is on station at events when needed.

If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, always feel free to contact me.

Thank You,

Andy Polay (bikecop39@aol.com)
