BAKITAH:  What's going on in our classrooms?

Each week, we will try to give you a brief summary of what each class has been doing recently.  We welcome you to discuss these topics with your children and, of course, feel free to enhance their learning with your own input.  We hope you enjoy it!

WEDNESDAYS

Grade 2 (both classes with Mrs. Young):  Reviewed Alef thru Resh.  Learned the letters Shin and Sin.  We also discussed how Moses got the Ten Commandments and briefly talked about each commandment.

Grade 3 Chai (Mrs. Wilbur):  We finished up our Avodah section of the Chai curriculum and began work on a lesson plan they will be bringing home next week.

Grade 4 Chai (Mrs. Burns):  We discussed the commandment “Honor Thy Parents” and read stories from the torah to discuss how parents are not always right, but they always know right from wrong from experience and knowledge.

Hebrew

Mrs. Usen:  This week we finished all letters and vowels.  We reviewed everything, and then tried chanting the Bar’chu and Sh’ma from the prayer book.

Mrs. Rosenberger:  Students continued working at their own paces in Mitkadem.

Ms. Lerner:  The students were tested on their reading abilities by reading a part of the full Kiddush.

THURSDAYS

Grade 7

Mrs. Gartner/Ms. Lerner/Max:  All seventh graders continued viewing "Keeping Up With the Steins," then had a very interesting and involved discussion on the relative importance of the religious aspect of B'nei Mitzvah as opposed to the celebration.

SUNDAYS

Kindergarten (Morah Elizabeth):  We studied Shavuot and the Ten Commandments.  We each wrote our own and had a good-bye party.  sad

Grade 1 (Mrs. Usen):  This week we continued our wrap-up of first grade Torah stories.  We hope to have these books finished up next week to present to our families for Shavuot.

THIS WEEK IN MACCABIAH WE HAD THE GREAT TEFILAH CHALLENGE:

♦       Barchu cheerleading

♦       Shema interpretive dance

♦       V'ahavta rap battle

♦       Mi chamocha wild dance party

Israel –

Mrs. Burns:  I brought in a homemade game of Israel’s map for the students to identify where each city is.

Hebrew -

Mrs. Lerner:  We played Hebrew hangman.  They broke up into two groups then picked words that the other team needed to guess.  After a successful guess, they switched off.  I tested their reading and letter recognition.

Mrs. Rosenberger:  Students continued working independently on Mitkadem.

Mrs. Wilbur:  We continued working on V'ahavta.

Mrs. Young:  Aleph Bet and vowel flash card games.

Mrs. Goren:  We learned about rooms of the house and furniture.  We did an exercise to design the house of our dreams and then write about it.
