Social Action Committee

The Temple Beth Am Social Action Committee defines its mission and activities in accordance with that established by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.  The Committee is therefore

....  charged with implementing a program that furthers the moral message of Judaism, which is to use individual conscience and collective strength to achieve social action . . .

The Committee has identified needs within the Temple and the community, and endeavors to address these issues.  To date, the Committee has implemented several projects:

          * an annual Coat Drive, with coats and jackets distributed to families in need

          * a furniture and household goods exchange, with items distributed to families in need

          * the sponsoring of a Temple team to participate in the Support Connection Walk, raising more than
$1,000 to support services for women affected by breast and ovarian cancer

          * the development of a Mitzvah Project Resource list, to be used by children in the Religious School
to satisfy the requirement of completing a service project prior to their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs

          *  the collection of cell phones, which are delivered to programs serving victims of domestic violence

Many more projects are planned.  Join us in making a difference in our community.
